I´m a family kinda girl, so after being away from home for 2 months I was pretty homesick. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed every single second of it but I missed seeing a familiar face. One of my cousins lives in Hamburg so I hopped on a plane and visited her and her family for the weekend.
I´m in love with Hamburg! I know I say this with every place I visit but with Hamburg it´s different. I love it to the point of wanting to live there. I even visited for a second time during the summer, but that’s another story.
Hamburg it’s such a cool city. Do you know it has more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined!?
I love this particular one canal, it used to be the city’s main entrance from the sea and it’s full of warehouses that are now stores, restaurants…
A must is to visit the main square.
Then start walking around and get lost in the beautiful area around the Alster.
Then head towards St. Pauli. Its docks and the port area are wonderful, and if you start making your way inside this district you´ll find lots of stores, entertainment, and all kinds of cool things.
Once a year you find the Hamburger Dom, a large fair with all kinds of food and attractions. What struck me the most was that´s next to the Flakturm, a bunker from 1942.
There’s also the Red Light district, not the most beautiful place but they say it’s the first place The Beatles played and they have a cool memorial thing going on.
So many cool memories from this trip… AND SO MANY PHOTOS!
Wait for part 2 this week.
